Note: This article reflects Looptworks’ earlier work in upcycling. Today, we focus on textile-to-textile recycling, producing high-quality recycled fiber for manufacturing applications.

“We love recycled products, especially when they’ve got a story as clever and a look as cool as these bags from Portland, Oregon-based Looptworks. They “upcycle” leather from old airline passenger seats into messenger bags, duffels, backpacks, and more. Production started last year with Southwest Airlines seats ($160-250) and this year they’re introducing a line from Alaska Airlines ($140-230), in russet leather – and it kept some 4,000 Alaska seat covers out of landfills. “

In a 2015 Forbes article highlighting top gifts for travelers, Looptworks was featured for its innovative approach to sustainability. The company specializes in upcycling excess materials into limited-edition products, such as bags and accessories, effectively reducing textile waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. By transforming surplus fabrics into functional items, Looptworks exemplifies a commitment to environmental responsibility and promotes thoughtful consumption within the fashion industry.
